The 2014-2015 Randolph Youth Theater season came to a close with a stirring finish, as director Jim Shover’s production of The Nifty Fifties was performed in front of a packed house Sunday afternoon at North Asheboro Middle School.
Attendance increased at each of the four performances, as word got out what a tremendously fun show this was. The play featured 10 different music and dance numbers. Additionally, the show was packed with a bunch of iconic moments from the 1950s, including teenagers hanging out at the neighborhood luncheonette, making plans for the sock hop while dreaming about a Rock ‘n’ Roll idol and trying to avoid the local rebels.
Those people who were around in the decade loved the poodle skirts and leather jackets, the homage to Steve McQueen and recalling the excitement over the debut of the Edsel. Those of us too young to remember still enjoyed the timeless story and memorable musical numbers.
